Former Brazil international Ronaldinho has signed a deal with Italian club Ravenna, who play in Serie C, the third tier of Italian football. The club announced the signing on its official website.
Ronaldinho was officially unveiled on 23 June in Miami, at Cipriani Miami. The club did not disclose the length of the contract, but the agreement is expected to cover at least the 2026/27 season. The financial terms were also not revealed.
Ravenna are based in the city of the same name in the Emilia-Romagna region. The club is currently being developed under entrepreneur Ignazio Cipriani, who wants to raise its profile and take it to a new level.
For Ravenna, signing Ronaldinho is a major publicity move: the Brazilian’s name is expected to bring the club additional attention.
Ronaldinho is now 46. He officially retired in 2018, although he played his last professional match back in 2015. The Brazilian played for PSG, Barcelona, AC Milan, Flamengo, Atletico Mineiro and several other clubs. He won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil and claimed the Ballon d’Or in 2005.
Given his age and long absence from professional football, Ronaldinho is unlikely to become a regular member of the squad for the whole season. His move to Ravenna appears to be linked mainly to the club’s marketing push and possible exhibition matches.. However, his involvement in official games has not been ruled out entirely.
