Polymarket has announced the launch of the Polymarket Institute, a research center dedicated to studying prediction markets and their use in assessing the likelihood of future events.
The institute will support independent academic research, provide scholars with access to Polymarket data and develop open infrastructure for analyzing prediction markets.
Researchers will focus on questions including:
- how accurately prediction markets forecast events;
- how new information affects participants’ expectations;
- how contract prices are formed on the platform;
- how reliably market outcomes are resolved;
- how platform security is maintained;
- how markets forecast developments in artificial intelligence and other technologies;
- how markets predict election results;
- how markets anticipate economic changes.
Brian Jabarian, an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, has been appointed the institute’s scientific director. Polymarket’s head of data, Kai Brush, will serve as managing director.
The institute’s first initiative will be the Polymarket Science Fellowship, an international program for doctoral students researching prediction markets and related fields.
Participants will receive funding and access to platform data to conduct independent research.
Polymarket said it would not predetermine research findings or require scholars to support the company’s position. Researchers will be free to choose their own topics, analytical methods and publication formats. However, they will be prohibited from trading on Polymarket or similar platforms while taking part in the program.
Polymarket also plans to make more of its market data publicly available.
