Forecasts for the global online gambling market made several years ago have turned out to be close to the actual figures. In three comparable cases, the gap between analysts’ projections and their 2025 market estimates was only 2–3%.
SportClan compared market forecasts published by research companies in 2021–2022 with their more recent estimates for 2025.
| Company | Forecast year | 2025 forecast | 2025 estimate | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Business Research Company | 2022 | $127.45 billion | $130.2 billion | +2.2% |
| Polaris Market Research | 2022 | $119 billion | $121.96 billion | +2.5% |
| 360iResearch | 2021 | $95.02 billion | $98.03 billion | +3.2% |
In all three cases, the later market estimates were slightly higher than the original forecasts. The Business Research Company delivered the closest projection: its 2025 estimate exceeded the forecast published in 2022 by only 2.2%.
Why Were the Forecasts So Close?
The accuracy can partly be explained by the fact that the key growth drivers behind the forecasts materialized.
In its 2022 report, The Business Research Company highlighted factors such as wider smartphone and internet adoption, the growth of digital payments, advances in technology platforms and the legalization of online gambling as major drivers of market expansion.
SportClan noted that figures from different research companies should not be directly compared, as methodologies vary and companies may define the online gambling market and its segments differently. Therefore, the publication compared each earlier forecast only with a later estimate from the same company.
