Polymarket Set to Pay Lazio Up to €7 Million to Exit Sponsorship Deal

Prediction market platform Polymarket is expected to compensate Lazio for the early termination of its sponsorship agreement with the Italian football club, according to Italian media reports.

The payment could amount to €6–7 million to more than one season under the existing deal. The compensation would allow Lazio to release Polymarket from its contractual obligations and begin searching for a new main shirt sponsor.

Reports that the two sides were preparing to end their partnership first emerged after Polymarket’s website was blocked in Italy. The latest information concerns the financial terms of the expected separation, which has yet to be officially confirmed.

The sponsorship agreement was signed in April 2026 and was due to run until June 2028. Its total value was estimated at €19 million.

Polymarket encountered regulatory problems after Italy’s gambling authority classified the platform as an unlicensed betting operator and ordered internet service providers to block access to its website. Polymarket maintains that it operates a prediction market platform and should not be treated as a traditional betting company.

Following the block, Lazio removed Polymarket branding from its official website and from shirts displayed in its online store. The club also played a friendly against Avellino without the logo of its main shirt sponsor.

Polymarket has challenged the regulator’s decision in court. On August 4, the Regional Administrative Court of Lazio declined to immediately suspend the block, ruling that the case required consideration by a panel of judges. A hearing is scheduled for August 25, with the website expected to remain unavailable in Italy until then.
