Italian internationals Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Fagioli have resolved the criminal proceedings linked to the illegal betting case, Corriere della Sera reported.
The latest development does not involve new football sanctions, but the conclusion of a separate criminal investigation. Both players had previously been punished by the Italian Football Federation for betting offences.
Tonali received a 10-month suspension, a €20,000 fine and was ordered to attend educational events about the risks of gambling addiction. Fagioli was suspended for seven months and fined €12,500.
The criminal case concerned the use of unauthorised online betting platforms. According to Italian media reports, the players were also suspected of promoting those platforms to other professional footballers, helping them open accounts and arrange payments.
That part of the case has now also been resolved.
Tonali agreed to pay a €78,250 fine, while Fagioli received a one-month suspended sentence. In practice, that means Fagioli will not serve time unless he breaches the terms of the sentence.
The betting scandal involving Tonali and Fagioli, which began in 2023, has therefore been legally resolved for both players. No new sporting suspensions have been announced in connection with this part of the case.
