Great Britain’s Gambling Commission is seeking to appoint a dedicated head of illegal markets for the first time, as it steps up efforts to tackle black market gambling activity. The vacancy has been published on the regulator’s website.
The role carries a salary of £65,000 a year before tax, equivalent to about €75,200 at the current exchange rate.
The position is offered on a hybrid basis, with regular travel to the Commission’s office in Birmingham.
It is classified as a full-time role of 37 hours a week, although applicants may also apply on a part-time basis of at least 30 hours a week. Applications are open until May 24.
The successful candidate will oversee investigations into illegal operators, coordinate the work of relevant Commission teams and work with law enforcement agencies, government bodies, overseas regulators and other organisations.
According to NEXT.io, the salary has raised questions among some industry figures. Gambling industry compliance consultant Nigel Harvey said £65,000 appeared low for such an important position, particularly given the scale of the illegal market and the importance of the role for gambling regulation in Britain.
