Funds from lottery ticket purchases in Thailand will soon be redirected into citizens’ dedicated pension savings accounts, The Straits Times reported.
The government has confirmed that the new measure will take effect within the next four months. Under the scheme, a portion of the value from losing digital lottery tickets will be automatically transferred to special savings accounts.
Only tickets purchased through the state-backed Pao Tang app will be eligible, as its digital infrastructure allows authorities to track buyers and allocate funds to individual accounts.
According to the program, citizens aged 15 and older will be able to buy lottery tickets. The minimum ticket price will be set at 50 baht (around 125 rubles), with a monthly purchase cap of 3,000 baht (around 7,500 rubles). Withdrawals from the accounts will only be allowed once participants reach the age of 55.
Citizens aged 56 and older will be permitted to continue contributing for an additional five years.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that Buddhist monks in Thailand had been banned from predicting winning lottery numbers.
