Russian Bookmaker FONBET Removes Reference to Pirlo’s Ambassador Role From Joint Post

Russian betting company FONBET has edited the caption of a joint Instagram post with Andrea Pirlo. According to the edit label beneath the post, the changes were made several hours ago.
The post was published on October 9, 2025, to announce the start of their partnership. Excluding emojis, the original caption read: “Ciao, Andrea Pirlo. The legendary Italian is FONBET’s new ambassador. Welcome to the Team of the Firsts, Maestro.”
The caption now contains only the words: “Ciao, Andrea Pirlo.” The direct reference to the former footballer’s role as a FONBET ambassador has therefore been removed.
The change comes amid controversy over Pirlo’s failed appointment as head coach of the Italian national team. According to media reports, the decision was linked to his partnership with the Russian betting company. Pirlo said he was no longer being considered for the position and described his relationship with FONBET as purely commercial and sports-related.
FONBET has not explained why the post was edited. The company may have removed the most prominent reference to Pirlo’s ambassadorial role from the joint post, which also appears on his profile, in an effort to reduce further media scrutiny surrounding him. The edit itself does not indicate that the partnership has ended.
