The Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) has decided to ban player prop bets on college sports, starting from March 1, 2024, as reported by Gambling News.

The ban aims to stop certain types of bets, such as betting on how many three-pointers or fouls a player will make in a basketball game. Ohioans who place such bets after the deadline will be breaking the law.

The ban was prompted by calls from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who is against player-specific prop bets.

Opponents of such bets say that they increase the risk of match-fixing and corruption in sports.

The ban is expected to have a big impact on the economy. For example, in Ohio alone, people bet a whopping $105 million on individual athletes in the last year, and $2.5 million of that went to the state’s budget through taxes.
