The Arizona Lottery in the United States has introduced a new restriction targeting players who engage in bulk lottery ticket purchases. According to Gambling Insider, the new measure aims to ensure all participants have an equal chance of winning.
Starting today, any individual player or group (a lottery syndicate*) who purchases more than $50,000 worth of tickets within a 24-hour period may be disqualified from claiming any prizes.
To monitor large-volume purchases, the Arizona Lottery reserves the right to use surveillance footage, transaction data, retailer reports, and other necessary tools.
“Our goal is to ensure fairness and equal opportunities for all players,” said Alec Thomson, Executive Director of the Arizona Lottery.
The measures implemented in Arizona are likely designed to prevent scenarios like the one recorded in Texas in April 2023, when a lottery syndicate secured a $95 million Texas Lottery jackpot by purchasing 28.5 million tickets worth $28.5 million.
