Colombia’s Attorney General has ordered an investigation into the Medellín city lottery following a controversial jackpot win during Saturday’s draw, reports Clarin. The draw in question featured a jackpot of 16 billion Colombian pesos (approximately $3.9 million), which was won by Luiza Jaramillo.
It was later revealed that she is the wife of Rubén Callejas — the Deputy Director of the Medellín Lottery and a former congressman from the Democratic Center party. The news quickly spread on social media and was widely covered by the media.
Even the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, reacted to the situation, posting on social media: “Is this true? Disciplinary and criminal authorities must provide us with information.”
Notably, just hours after the scandal broke, Rubén Callejas resigned from his position as Deputy Director of the Medellín Lottery. Neither he nor his lucky wife has commented publicly on the situation so far.
Earlier, Gambling-Park reported on a bizarre incident in the Bulgarian lottery, where the number 41 was drawn in a “5 out of 35” game.
