The General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling in Spain (DGOJ) has published its report for 2024. The data was released on the regulator’s official website.

Last year, the number of active players increased by 21.63%, reaching 1.99 million. Of these, 85.14% were men and 16.85% were women. The 18–45 age group accounted for 85.70% of all gambling participants in the country.

The average annual spending per player was €706 (or €58.82 per month / €13.57 per week). Men spent more on gambling than women — €740 versus €538 respectively.

The highest spending was recorded among players aged 46–55, who spent €1,146 per year. The lowest spending came from the 18–25 age group, with an average of €299 annually.

Betting was the most popular segment, with 1.56 million Spaniards participating — an increase of 25.43% compared to 2023.

More than half of all gambling operator clients (51.96%) played in only one segment:

  • 36.25% — sports betting
  • 11.37% — casino
  • 3.78% — poker
  • 0.55% — bingo

For 21.25% of Spanish players, gambling generated income in 2024. For 5% of them, the amount exceeded €489. At the same time, 35% recorded losses greater than €147 for the year.

Earlier, it was reported that Spain’s online gambling market hit a record Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR*) of €1.45 billion in 2024.

*GGR is a financial metric used to assess gross revenue, calculated as the total amount wagered minus total winnings paid out.
