US blogger CircuitCindy has built an unusual toy for her cat: a miniature slot machine that dispenses treats after a winning combination. She shared details of the project on social media.
The machine looks like a pink slot machine with cat ears, a lever and three reels. The cat pulls the lever, the reels start spinning, and if they land on a winning combination, the device dispenses a treat.
The creator said she spent several months modelling the parts, 3D-printing them, drawing the visual elements, writing the code and assembling the electronics.
The toy’s main feature is not only its appearance, but also its internal logic. The device connects to the internet, allowing the owner to control it remotely. It also has a built-in system that guarantees the cat a win after a set number of failed attempts. This prevents the cat from facing a long losing streak and losing interest in the game.
The treat-dispensing mechanism proved to be the most difficult part. The first versions kept jamming, so the creator eventually switched to a gumball machine-style mechanism, which turned out to be more reliable.
To make the machine feel more realistic, she also added a slight wobble to the reels when they stop. After the project went viral, the creator decided to develop the device further. She is now refining the design, production and logistics, while a waiting list for the future product is already open on circuitcindy.com.
