Nearly 4,000 Arrested for Illegal Betting During EURO 2024 in Thailand

Thai police have made over 3,800 arrests related to illegal betting during the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament, according to the Bangkok Post.
Among those arrested at illegal land-based betting locations were:
- 2,944 alleged gamblers
- 50 alleged betting agents
In addition, Thai police successfully shut down 224 websites that were facilitating bets on EURO 2024, effectively putting a stop to their operations.
These illegal betting platforms had a combined turnover of approximately $66.3 million. As part of the arrests made in connection with illegal online betting, the breakdown includes:
- 145 individuals allegedly managing the sites
- 701 alleged gamblers
As of July 1st, Thai authorities had reported 2,600 arrests for illegal betting on EURO 2024 and the closure of 142 illegal betting websites with a turnover exceeding $49 million.
It’s important to note that gambling in Thailand, with the exception of horse racing bets and government-sponsored lotteries, is strictly prohibited.
