match-fixing in tennis

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has issued a report detailing its activities for the first quarter of 2024. The agency, through its confidential agreements with the regulated betting industry, has identified 25 alerts related to potential match-fixing incidents.

The alerts spanned across various tournaments:

ATP Challenger 50 — 2 alerts

ATP Challenger 75 — 2 alerts

ATP World Tour 250 — 1 alert

M15 Men’s World Tennis Tour 15s — 12 alerts

M25 Men’s World Tennis Tour 25s — 2 alerts

W15 Women’s World Tennis Tour 15s — 4 alerts

W35 Women’s World Tennis Tour 35s — 1 alert

W50 Women’s World Tennis Tour 50s — 1 alert

The report emphasizes that these alerts, indicating suspicious betting activity, do not conclusively prove match-fixing.

In the same period, the ITIA suspended 16 tennis players and officials for varying durations, with some facing lifetime bans.

The suspensions were due to various corruption violations, including betting-related misconduct, manipulation of match outcomes, and breaches of anti-doping rules. Some of the individuals faced additional fines.

This follows our earlier report on potential match-fixing incidents identified in tennis in 2023.
