HBO is planning a series about Gina Fiore, a professional advantage player who won millions of dollars from casinos over 24 years through card counting and other methods of gaining an edge. Deadline reports.
The project is titled Advantage Player. Elvis Presley’s granddaughter and Emmy nominee Riley Keough will play the lead role. The script was written by Will Graham. Production and premiere dates have not yet been announced.
The story centers on a professional gambler who realizes she can consistently beat casinos and enters a world of people looking for ways to gain an advantage over the house. The characters try to beat the system through calculation, observation and knowledge of its weaknesses.
Fiore began her career as a blackjack dealer after learning the game from her mother. At the tables, she noticed that some players were able to beat casinos consistently and began studying their methods. In addition to card counting, Fiore took advantage of situations where she could glimpse the dealer’s hole card and learned to identify particular cards from subtle asymmetries in the patterns on their backs. She used these techniques at casinos in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and Puerto Rico.
In 2006, Fiore became involved in a case that later reached the US Supreme Court. While returning from Puerto Rico, she and professional gambler Keith Gipson had around $97,000 in cash seized after US law enforcement suspected the money was linked to drug trafficking. They were able to prove the source of the funds, and the money was returned several months later.
Fiore’s story also became the basis for her memoir, Advantage Player: A Memoir of Blackjack, Backrooms, and Beginnings, scheduled for release on October 27, 2026. In addition to blackjack, she has played poker and bet on sports.
Fiore now works with Unabated, a sports betting analytics service that helps users compare sportsbook odds and find the best available prices.
