An Israeli Air Force major is set to face charges of breach of trust over bets placed on military strikes in Iran and Yemen via the prediction market platform Polymarket, according to Israeli broadcaster N12.
Investigators believe the officer used non-public information obtained through his military duties when placing the bets. He is due to attend a hearing before any charges are formally filed.
Few other details about the new case have been disclosed. The officer’s name and position have not been made public, nor have the number or value of the bets, any profits made, or the specific events related to strikes in Iran and Yemen that were the subject of the wagers.
This is not the first Polymarket betting case involving a member of the Israeli Air Force. Another officer was previously charged in a separate case involving more serious alleged offenses. Prosecutors said he had breached secrecy requirements and was prepared to use highly classified information for financial gain.
According to court documents in that case, the officer’s actions could have endangered Air Force pilots and military operations. He spent several months in custody before being released under restrictions. During court proceedings, the officer said betting was widespread within the Air Force and that he had been driven by the thrill of gambling and the desire to make money.
