match-fixing in tennis

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has reported a downward trend in potential match-fixing incidents within tennis. The 2023 figures show a decrease in suspicious matches, continuing a multi-year decline.

In 2023, the ITIA flagged 101 potential integrity breaches, down from 109 in 2022, and 113 in 2021.

Notably, last year’s scrutiny revealed no irregularities at any of the four Grand Slam tournaments or at the higher-tier 500- and 1000-level WTA and ATP tours.

However, the ITIA did observe questionable matches in lower-tier tournaments:

  • ATP 250 Tour: 2 matches
  • ATP Challenger 125: 3 matches
  • ATP Challenger 100: 2 matches
  • ATP Challenger 75: 5 matches
  • ATP Challenger 50: 3 matches
  • WTA 250 Tournaments: 5 matches
  • M25 Men’s World Tennis Tour: 28 matches
  • M15 Men’s World Tennis Tour: 24 matches
  • W60 Women’s World Tennis Tour: 8 matches
  • W40 Women’s World Tennis Tour: 10 matches
  • W15 Women’s World Tennis Tour: 11 matches

In addition to match alerts, the ITIA imposed sanctions on 41 individuals in 2023 under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program, with nine facing a lifetime ban from tennis activities.

It was previously reported that in the fourth quarter of 2023, ITIA disqualified 16 tennis players for match-fixing and betting violations.
