UEFA is considering launching its own streaming service to broadcast Champions League matches directly to fans, The Guardian reported.
The project is at an early stage of discussion. Final details, including potential subscription pricing or the possibility of free access, have yet to be determined.
A pilot launch could take place in the next media rights cycle, from 2027 to 2031. Large Asian markets such as Indonesia and India are being considered as potential test territories. The commercial model is being developed by UC3, a joint venture between UEFA and European Club Association (ECA), which manages the commercial rights to the competitions.
UEFA expects the new service to help increase revenues in regions where existing media deals do not fully realise the competition’s potential.
A similar approach is being explored by the English Premier League, which is planning to launch its own streaming app — informally referred to as “Premflix” — and test it in Singapore.
The initiative is being discussed against the backdrop of a recent agreement between UEFA, EFC and Real Madrid, which helped ease tensions surrounding the Super League project. At the time, the parties said that improving the fan experience through technology would be a key area of cooperation.
UEFA’s more flexible approach to broadcasting may have influenced Real Madrid’s position in these discussions.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that Sportradar and UEFA had extended their exclusive betting partnership in a multi-year deal.
