Jordanian civil servants will start later on days when the national football team plays at the 2026 World Cup, state news agency Petra reported. Prime Minister Jafar Hassan approved the change.
The adjustment applies to three group-stage dates — 17, 23 and 28 June — when government offices will open at 10:00 instead of the usual morning hours.
The authorities said the decision aims to give citizens the chance to watch the matches and support the national team during its historic World Cup debut.
The 2026 World Cup will be Jordan’s first appearance at the tournament.
With the tournament held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, time zone differences mean Jordan’s games will take place early in the morning. Government offices will open 90 minutes later on match days to accommodate viewers.
Jordan will face Austria, Algeria and Argentina in the group stage. The revised schedule is intended to let the population follow the games and back the team during its debut.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from 11 June to 19 July across the US, Canada and Mexico.
