ICE Barcelona Bans Smart Glasses to Prevent Covert Recording

WorldGaming, the company behind the ICE and iGB Affiliate Barcelona gambling industry events, has banned visitors from using Meta smart glasses and other wearable devices capable of covert recording. The policy was announced by WorldGaming on September 25, according to iGamingBusiness.

The ban applies to devices that can be used to discreetly record video, take photos or capture audio. Photography and video or audio recording at the events must be carried out openly, in accordance with the organisers’ rules and with any required consent.

WorldGaming said the decision followed concerns raised by exhibitors. Companies fear that visitors could use smart glasses to secretly record products and technologies on display, potentially leading to intellectual property infringements or the copying of product features and designs.

The organisers also cited the privacy of visitors, exhibitors and staff as a reason for the ban. Such devices can record people without their knowledge or consent.

The new rules will apply to both ICE Barcelona and iGB Affiliate Barcelona, which are organised by WorldGaming.

The next ICE Barcelona will take place from January 18 to 20, 2027, while iGB Affiliate Barcelona will be held on January 19–20. Both events will take place at Fira Barcelona Gran Via in Barcelona.
