Five casino employees in Macau find themselves under arrest, suspected of orchestrating a high-stakes scam that has cost the establishment hundreds of thousands of dollars, Casino.org reports.
The suspects, including a dealer and casino managers, were reportedly recruited by an organized crime group. Their mission? To manipulate the cards used in baccarat games.
The casino staff surreptitiously stacked the deck in a specific order, which they then introduced during gameplay. With the help of these insiders, the scammers at the table — armed with knowledge of the card sequence — consistently won.
Their strategy was simple: knowing precisely when to raise bets and when to hold back. The result? The casino suffered losses totaling $580,000.
But the story doesn’t end there. Alongside the apprehended casino staff, three members of the criminal group now find themselves in custody. However, reports suggest that several other scammers remain at large.
Interestingly, this incident follows a disconcerting trend: crime rates in Macau’s casino sector surged by over 120% during the first quarter of 2024.
