Maybank Investment Bank has released a comprehensive research report for investors, exploring the prospects of legalizing the gambling market in Thailand.

Last week, the House of Representatives of Thailand cast their votes in favor of legalizing gambling within the country.

Now, the bill awaits consideration by the Thai government.

According to Maybank’s analysis, the timeline for this development is as follows: “Assuming two years to finalize a regulatory framework and three years to construct, the first economic corridor may only open in 2029“.

The proposed casino complexes are expected to find homes in strategic locations across Thailand:

  • Eastern Economic Corridor (Rayong, Chonburi, and Chachoengsao)
  • Southern regions (Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi)
  • Northern provinces (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang)
  • Northeastern areas (Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Nakhon Ratchasima)

Interestingly, if Maybank’s projections hold true, Thailand’s first casino will open its doors ahead of the anticipated MGM Osaka in Japan. The Osaka project, which commenced construction last year, aims for a grand unveiling by 2030.
