A Dutch court has ruled that Malta-based gaming company BML Group Limited, which operates Betsson, must refund nearly €120,000 to a player, according to Casino Nieuws.

The player initially created an account with Betsson in August 2014 but closed it without ever placing a bet. In 2017, he returned as an active customer and went all in. It didn’t end well.

Over the next four years, the player racked up nearly €120,000 in losses at Betsson’s online casino.

At the time, Betsson did not hold a Dutch gambling license, which became the key argument for the player’s legal claim demanding compensation for his losses.

The player’s legal representative argued that Betsson had no right to target Dutch users without a local license.

Betsson countered by citing Maltese regulations and EU free trade laws, asserting that it was operating within the legal framework of the European market.

The court sided with the player, setting a precedent for other Betsson customers now lining up in hopes of reclaiming their past losses.
