The Belgian Gambling Commission (Kansspelcommissie) has launched an inquiry into the promotional partnership between former Belgium national team captain Eden Hazard and gambling operator Stake, Belgian outlet HLN reported. The investigation follows the footballer’s recent announcement of a partnership with the company, under which he was introduced as an international brand ambassador.
The regulator’s attention is linked to Stake’s legal status in Belgium. The company does not hold a local license and is included on the country’s list of prohibited gambling websites. Under Belgian law, the promotion of unlicensed gambling operators is prohibited.
The commission will now assess whether Hazard’s social media post could effectively constitute advertising of an illegal gambling service for a Belgian audience.

Authorities are also focusing on the footballer’s popularity. Hazard has a multi-million-strong following on social media, including a significant number of Belgian subscribers. According to the regulator, such posts could influence younger audiences and potentially stimulate interest in gambling on banned platforms.
If a violation is confirmed, Hazard could face sanctions. Typically, the regulator first issues a warning and requires the suspected breach to cease. If the issue is not resolved, enforcement proceedings may follow, potentially resulting in an administrative fine exceeding €700,000.
Gambling Park previously reported that an Italian streamer is threatening Stake with license action over €324,000 in unpaid winnings.
