UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin has warned that Italy risks losing its right to host the UEFA Euro 2032 if it fails to upgrade its sports infrastructure.
In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Čeferin said the tournament is scheduled to be co-hosted with Turkey. However, matches could be moved away from Italy if venues do not meet UEFA requirements. He added that the country’s football infrastructure remains among the weakest in Europe.
Čeferin linked the issue to broader governance problems, citing a disconnect between football authorities and state institutions.
He also commented on Italy’s defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in a World Cup qualifier, saying the opponent deserved the win and that a red card proved decisive. He opposed criticism of players, coaching staff, and federation leadership, stressing that responsibility should not be placed on individuals.
At the same time, he criticized some Italian politicians, saying they use the national team’s setbacks for their own benefit rather than to support the squad.
Infrastructure concerns are reflected in stadium readiness. San Siro, home to AC Milan and Inter Milan, has not been included in the list of approved venues for Euro 2032. Media reports indicate that, at present, only Allianz Stadium in Turin fully meets UEFA standards.
The final list of stadiums set to host Euro 2032 matches is expected to be confirmed by October 2026.
Earlier, Gambling Park reported that Italian authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the proposed sale of San Siro to AC Milan and Inter Milan.
