The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a nationwide ban on betting across all domestic leagues, Sigma.World reports.
The measure is described as a preventive step to tackle the growing issue of match-fixing in Ghanaian football.
“The ban is aimed at ensuring that the outcomes of football matches in Ghana are determined solely by the skills and efforts of the players on the field, and not by external factors that undermine the integrity of the game, such as match-fixing,” said GFA President Kurt Okraku.
In addition, the GFA has required player representatives and officials to sign a declaration committing themselves to the principles of integrity, transparency, and fairness, and to refrain from any actions that could compromise the integrity of football in the country.
Gambling Park notes that match-fixing has long been a problem in Ghana. For example, in 2022 two local clubs and 25 players were banned.
