22-year-old Italian Luigi Giuseppe Comella, a former Portomaso Casino dealer, has pleaded guilty to charges of fraud, according to the Times of Malta.
Comella was dealing cards to players at the baccarat table, also known as Punto Banco. Apparently, he was feeling shortchanged by his wages, which resulted in him colluding with players.
It is reported that he tampered with some games to help his partners-in-crime win an illegal €8050 in just three days. The dealer himself only got a measly €150 for his part in the fraud.
But Comella’s cheating ways didn’t last long, as the casino’s surveillance cameras caught him in the act. The casino’s management wasted no time and promptly fired the dishonest employee. The Portomaso police then arrested the dealer and charged him with fraud and embezzlement.
Comella didn’t deny his wrongdoing and pleaded guilty. He also promised to pay back the casino for the damage he caused. As a result, the prosecution decided not to push for a jail sentence and let Comella go on bail.
