Milton Champion, the head of Maine’s Gambling Control Unit, has been put on leave after posting sexist and racist tweets, Sports Handle reports.
The gambling regulator was caught using a slur to refer to women and making light of white supremacists marching in Washington.
Champion tweeted: “While waiting for my truck to be serviced I’m looking for the answer to a recent comment to me stating that the description ‘Ladies’ meaning more than one female is not professional or appropriate. In this day and age I guess ‘Bitches’ is better”.

He also replied to a video showing racists in the nation’s capital: “At least they are not burning down cities and looting stores”.
The Gambling Control Unit, a branch of the Department of Public Safety, oversees gambling in Maine. Champion was a key player in crafting the licensing rules. But Maine still doesn’t have a legal betting market, and it might not until late 2023 – early 2024.
Champion is not the only gambling regulator in the U.S. to face a scandal recently. Pat McDonald, the former director of the Ohio Lottery Commission, also had to resign last month. He was accused of sending inappropriate messages to employees, commenting on their looks, and touching them without their consent.
