According to sources cited by The Times, bookmaker Bar One Racing is reportedly in talks with Entain to acquire its Irish chain of Ladbrokes betting shops.
The deal would cover all 174 Ladbrokes retail locations currently operating across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK). The potential buyer, Bar One Racing, presently operates only 60 betting shops. A successful deal with Entain would allow Bar One to expand its retail footprint by nearly 300%.
Entain is reportedly considering the sale due to intense competition in the Irish market from major operators like Paddy Power and BoyleSports. Ireland is said to be a challenging market for the UK-based group.
Bar One Racing was founded by businessman Barney O’Hare in the 1990s and has significantly expanded its retail presence across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Today, Bar One Racing is considered the largest independent bookmaker in the region.
Representatives of Entain and Bar One Racing declined to comment on the potential deal.
Earlier, it was reported that Entain lost a legal case involving the protection of the Sportingbet brand.
