Gambling companies registered in Curaçao could face criminal prosecution if they operate without a license issued by the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA), Next.io reports.

In a statement released today, the CGA warned that offering gambling services without undergoing the official licensing process constitutes a violation of the National Ordinance on Games of Chance.

The regulator emphasized that many companies registered on the island continue to rely on foreign licenses — a practice that is illegal under Curaçaoan law.

According to the CGA, such behavior risks misleading players, service providers, and payment processors, and breaches provisions of the local criminal code.

To address the issue, the regulator announced plans to issue formal cease-and-desist letters to unlicensed operators in the near future.

The warning comes as Curaçao ramps up efforts to combat money laundering in its gambling sector.
