Nearly two years ago, 41-year-old Singaporean Neo Hui Ghim threatened to bomb a Resorts World Cruises vessel after losing $2,000 in its onboard casino. He is now on trial and faces up to seven years in prison, The Straits Times reported.
The incident took place in the fall of 2023, when Neo was traveling with his parents on the cruise ship. He had planned to attend a concert but was unable to get a ticket as they were sold out.
Frustrated, he turned to the ship’s casino in hopes of lifting his mood, but ended up losing about $2,000. Unable to accept the loss, Neo devised a plan to recover the money after the trip.
He sent several emails to Resorts World Cruises threatening to detonate a bomb on board unless his casino losses were reimbursed. Police quickly confirmed that no bomb existed, and Neo was arrested the same day.
A court hearing was scheduled for September 27, 2025, but the outcome has not yet been released. If convicted, Neo faces up to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
