Colombian football club Deportivo Pasto has issued a statement raising concerns about alleged match-fixing involving some of its own players, according to El Tiempo. The announcement was made by club president Óscar Casabona at a specially convened press conference.
“The board of directors and coaching staff of Deportivo Pasto inform the public, our loyal fans, the media and Colombian professional football that in recent hours we received detailed information through a confidential channel regarding alleged match-fixing in which several players from our professional squad may be involved,” the statement read.
Players are suspected of fixing matches in recent league games against Deportivo Cali, Once Caldas, Millonarios, Llaneros, Unión Magdalena and Boyacá Chicó.
The club said it has already taken measures to support the investigation and verify the allegations, with assistance from the Attorney General’s Office and the Colombian Football Federation.
The statement came ahead of Pasto’s match against América de Cali. Several suspected players were left out of the squad, but the changes did not help the team avoid defeat, as they lost 2–0.
Gambling Park notes that after 12 rounds of the Colombian top flight, Deportivo Pasto sits bottom of the table in 20th place with just 10 points.
