Dozens of bookmakers operating in the Brazilian market have reported losses due to match-fixing in the country. The affected companies are demanding a full investigation and harsh penalties for the culprits, iGaming.org reports.
The bookmakers’ claims are related to the ongoing match-fixing probe by the Goias prosecutors. More than 10 players from different clubs are suspected of being involved in this scandal. They could end up behind bars, paying hefty fines, or getting kicked out of football for life if convicted.
A coalition of 29 bookies — 15 from the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), 9 from the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR) and 5 independent ones — have joined forces to demand justice.
Some of the big names in the betting industry that fell victim to the scheme are Parimatch, Bet365, Betsson, Entain, Betano, Bet Nacional, Kaizen, Flutter Entertainment, and others.
All these bookmakers stress the need to crack down on match-fixing, as this type of fraud hurts their business and reputation.
