In the Netherlands, a 77-year-old grandfather has filed a lawsuit against the bookmaker Bingoal following his underage grandson’s substantial gambling losses.
The teenager, who is not legally permitted to gamble, managed to squander approximately €160,000 on Bingoal’s platform within two months.
His total losses across various betting platforms amounted to over €500,000, with the largest portion lost at Bingoal, prompting the legal action.
The grandfather’s lawsuit raises serious questions about Bingoal’s user verification processes, particularly how the platform failed to prevent an underage individual from gambling and did not verify the source of the funds following significant losses.
Complicating matters, the young man registered on the site using his father’s documents and funded his bets from his grandfather’s savings account.
Bingoal, facing the lawsuit, has taken a defensive stance and has also filed a counterclaim against the young man for the fraudulent use of personal information.
