Interpol is launching a large-scale investigation into alleged match-fixing in the second division of the Greek football championship, according to Politeia. The investigation is being conducted in collaboration with the Greek financial police, with preliminary information on potential “match-fixers” provided by Sportradar, a popular Swiss company known for its fraud detection system in betting.
There are up to 47 individuals under suspicion in connection with this case, all of whom are somehow associated with the aforementioned football division, including active footballers, agents, coaches, and club presidents.
It has also been reported that Interpol possesses evidence of match-fixing dating back to April of last year.
As the investigation continues, the identities of the footballers, agents, and coaches involved in the match-fixing have not yet been disclosed, nor have specific clubs been named, except for one: the focus of the investigation appears to be on the team Panachaiki.
Additionally, Interpol is also investigating similar illicit activities in other countries. There are indications that further revelations about match-fixing scandals may emerge soon in Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Sweden.
