STA reports that British gambling giant Entain has changed its mind about buying a stake in Sportna Loterija, the only licensed betting operator in Slovenia.
It’s unclear if Entain still plans to enter the Slovenian gambling market, but the company said the deal was not worth it right now.
Sportna Loterija is owned by three local sports associations: Ski Association of Slovenia (SZS), Slovenian Olympic Committee (SZS), and Football Association of Slovenia (NZS). Besides Entain, the Romanian casino group Surebet had also hoped to get a piece of the gambling company.
As for Entain, the recent big spending by the gambling giant may have played a role in its decision to back off from Slovenia.
For example, it was recently announced that Entain is buying the largest Polish bookmaker, STS, for £750 million ($945 million). And just a month before, the British gambling company got the right to run the New Zealand bookmaker TAB.
