The Serbian Basketball League (KLS) has posted on its website that some matches in the championship were rigged. The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is on the case, but the names of the players and teams involved are under wraps as the investigation is still underway.
In its press release, the KLS says it wants to get rid of any shady actions in Serbian basketball and slams any violations of FIBA’s Code of Ethics.
Interestingly, AdmiralBet, a bookie, is the official partner of KLS.
Also, KLS has announced plans to hold an educational seminar before the 2023/2024 season. The seminar aims to teach clubs, players, and other people involved in basketball competitions. Specifically, the seminar will stress the illegality of match-fixing and the penalties for such crimes.
According to Sportradar, one of the main trends in 2022 regarding match-fixing is a huge spike in the number of suspicious basketball matches (220). That’s a 250% jump from the previous year.
