Andy Sanborn, a former New Hampshire senator and the owner of Concord Casino, is facing charges of financial fraud for getting $844,000 in COVID-19 relief funds for his casino business, which was not eligible for the aid.
According to AP News, Sanborn lied about his casino’s main activity in his application to the Small Business Administration, which provided the funds from December 2021 to February 2022.
He claimed that his casino was a miscellaneous service group, instead of a casino and charitable gaming establishment.
But instead of using the money for his business, Sanborn reportedly bought 3 cars for his wife: two Porsches and one Ferrari, worth more than $260,000. He also spent about $183,000 on personal expenses.
The authorities are now seeking to revoke Concord Casino’s license and ban Sanborn from gambling activities. This could affect Sanborn’s plans to build a new casino and restaurant in Concord, which the city recently approved.
Sanborn denies the allegations and plans to fight them in court.
