Entain

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has given the British gambling giant Entain an ultimatum: get out of all unregulated markets in Latin America, as per Casino.org.

This order from the CPS is on top of the penalties already slapped on Entain, which stemmed from an investigation into bribery involving the company’s former Turkish gambling business. To settle this criminal case, Entain reps agreed to pay a fine of $730 million. But it seems that this is not the end of the story.

Entain also has to exit the Latin American markets, where the gambling industry is not fully regulated. This covers countries like Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Peru, where Entain still runs a thriving business through brands like Sportingbet and Betboo.

It’s worth noting that Entain had already planned to leave unregulated markets earlier, when the company set a goal to rake in 100% of its revenue only from nationally regulated markets by the end of 2023. But it looks like the deadline for this mission might have to be pushed back.

On top of that, Entain has to quit Latin America within one year, by December 5, 2024, as per the CPS’s mandate. The question is, will Entain be able to meet this deadline this time?
