In a shocking scandal that has rocked Thailand’s religious community, police have arrested 35-year-old Wilawan Emsawat on charges of extortion and blackmail.
According to the AP, the woman allegedly seduced multiple Buddhist monks, engaged in sexual relations with them, and secretly recorded their encounters using photos and videos. She later used this material to blackmail the monks, demanding large sums of money in exchange for silence.
During raids on her residence, police reportedly seized tens of thousands of photographs, chat logs, and video files that confirm the extortion scheme.
Investigators believe that over the past three years, Wilawan managed to extort approximately $12 million, most of which was transferred to her directly from temple accounts.

Ironically, authorities revealed that the majority of the funds were lost in unnamed online casinos, as the woman was reportedly a compulsive gambler. All monks implicated in the scandal have been stripped of their monastic status.
In Thailand, Buddhist monks are bound by a strict code of celibacy — even touching a woman is prohibited, let alone engaging in sexual activity. The case has sparked nationwide outrage and renewed scrutiny over misconduct within religious institutions.
