Belgian gambling company BetFIRST has been bought by Swedish gambling company Betsson, as Casino Nieuws reports. The deal was sealed for €120 million ($132.2 million).
BetFIRST is known for offering various forms of gambling in Belgium, including an online sportsbook, around 450 land-based sports betting locations, and a slot machine arcade.
And now, all these assets are in Betsson’s hands.
In addition, the Swedish company plans to launch an online casino in Belgium. For this purpose, Betsson will join forces with the French gambling group Partouche, which operates casinos in several countries, including Switzerland, France, and Belgium.
It should be noted that getting a Belgian license for an online casino requires having a license for land-based casinos in the country. Currently, Partouche only has the first type of permit (for offline casinos). It is expected that Betsson will launch the online casino in Belgium in 2023 after getting the right license.
Furthermore, both of these deals happened against the backdrop of Betsson’s successful year in review. The company’s annual revenue jumped by 18%, reaching €772.2 million.
