Women’s soccer is getting more exciting, and female bettors are showing it. They are placing more bets on the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia than ever before, according to Entain, a network of betting companies.
For example, UK-based bookies Ladbrokes and Coral reported that 21% of all bets on England’s first three matches were placed by women. That’s a significant jump from the 17% and 13% of female bets on the 2022 Women’s Euro and the 2019 World Cup respectively.
BetMGM is not alone in this observation. TAB New Zealand, another Entain partner, revealed that nearly 15% of all bets on the World Cup were made by women, compared to 9% in the 2019 edition.
Moreover, TAB New Zealand witnessed a whopping 365% increase in the total number of bets on the 2023 World Cup compared to the previous one in 2019.
The most surprising data, however, came from the US. At BetMGM, one of the leading sports betting platforms in the country, the opening match of the US women’s national team attracted three times more bets than Lionel Messi’s debut with Inter Miami. That’s right — the American ladies beat the Argentine legend in popularity among bettors.
