The Armenian parliament is debating a new law drafted by the Ministry of Finance that would level the playing field for foreign and domestic gambling operators.
The law would change the rules for getting gambling licenses for foreign online casinos and bookmakers, making them match the ones for local companies.
The lawmakers discussed the proposed amendments during a session of the National Assembly, where they also reviewed other changes to the country’s gambling laws and related regulations.
According to the law, people who want to gamble online with foreign operators would have to open separate accounts that can only be funded in person.
Gevorg Papoyan, the head of the NA Finance Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs, said that this would help monitor certain groups of people who gamble, such as low-income citizens and military personnel. He added that if these groups show signs of gambling addiction, they may face restrictions on their gambling activities.
