A 2026 World Cup qualifier between Libya and Cape Verde ended in a 3–3 draw yesterday in Tripoli.
Midway through the second half, Libya were leading 3–1 and seemed on course for victory — until goalkeeper Murad Al-Wuheeshi conceded a suspicious goal that allowed Cape Verde to close the gap.
A weak long ball from near the halfway line somehow slipped through the keeper’s legs after he failed to collect it cleanly. Cape Verde went on to score again, salvaging a draw.
Fans believe Al-Wuheeshi’s actions may have been deliberate. The Libyan Football Federation has launched an investigation into a possible match-fixing incident, according to African journalist Micky Junior.
Gambling Park notes that Cape Verde now have a real chance of qualifying for the World Cup. The team sits top of its group after nine rounds and will secure a place at the tournament with a win over Eswatini in the final matchday.
