On December 14, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) hosted its inaugural drawing of the country’s first-ever regulated lottery. According to Khaleej Times, more than 29,000 participants walked away with cash prizes of varying amounts.
The $27.2 million jackpot went unclaimed as no player successfully matched the winning numbers: 26, 19, 9, 11, 18, 17, 7.
The odds of securing the grand prize were exceptionally slim. Lottery operator The Game LLC reported a 1 in 8.8 million chance of hitting the jackpot.
Despite the elusive jackpot, the draw brought plenty of wins for players in the UAE:
- 4 players each won $27,200
- 211 players claimed $272 prizes
- Over 28,000 players received $27.20 each
In total, 29,080 participants shared a prize pool of nearly $953,000.
The UAE lottery is open to participants aged 18 and older residing in the country. Tickets are priced at over $13, with draws taking place every two weeks — the next one is set for December 28. Additionally, scratch lottery games* (priced from $1 to $13) are also available.
*Scratch lotteries are games where players scratch off a protective layer to instantly reveal whether they’ve won a prize.
