According to iGaming Brazil, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has told all clubs in the Brasileirão Betano Série B, Brazil’s second division football league, to wear a patch with the tournament’s name on the sleeve area of their game jerseys.

In a surprising move, the patch will also give a shout-out to Betano, a bookmaker that sponsors the competition and has naming rights to the tournament.

This could spark conflicts in the near future. Gambling Park notes that all 20 clubs in the Brasileiro Betano Serie B are sponsored by betting companies in some way. In fact, 13 teams have betting companies as their title partners, placing their logos on the front of the game jersey.

The problem is that the contracts between clubs and betting companies have an exclusivity clause. This means that no other company in the sports betting sector can advertise on the game jerseys.

It is unclear how the issue with Betano will be resolved. The CBF claims that there should be no conflict, saying that “the patch simply reproduces the name of the competition and absolutely does not want to harm clubs”, according to a representative from the CBF.
