Cockfighting at an illegal venue in Malaysia
Police in Malaysia have broken up an illegal cockfighting operation with bets of up to RM20,000 (about $4,900) per round. In total, 41 men were detained in the raid, The Star reports.
The operation took place on the evening of October 3. The fights were held in a hut on a fruit plantation. According to police, the illegal venue had been operating since the beginning of 2026.
Those detained included 40 Malaysian nationals and one Indonesian citizen. One of the men, a 50-year-old local resident, told police that he was the organiser and owner of the venue. Two others are believed to have acted as a referee for the fights and the organiser’s assistant.
During the raid, officers seized RM114,211 (about $27,900) in cash, believed to be linked to the illegal operation, along with other items. Police did not specify what else was seized.
The operation involved officers from the criminal investigation department and veterinary officials.
The case is being investigated under laws on illegal gambling, animal welfare and immigration.
Police said they would continue to crack down on illegal gambling and animal cruelty.
