A large crowd is expected to attend the sentencing of the man convicted of murdering rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. With demand for courtroom seats expected to exceed capacity, officials plan to hold a lottery if necessary, FOX5 reports.
The drawing is scheduled for October 13, before the sentencing hearing begins. Anyone hoping to attend must arrive at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas by 9:30 a.m. local time. Seats will be allocated at random.
Those selected will be able to watch the sentencing in person from inside the courtroom. Those who do not get a seat will be offered the opportunity to watch a live feed of the proceedings on a large screen in an adjacent room.
A similar system was used during the trial in August 2026, when courtroom seats were allocated through daily drawings due to strong public interest in the case.
The case centers on 63-year-old Duane Davis, also known as Keffe D. On August 31, a jury found him guilty of the 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur.
Davis now faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
On September 7, 1996, a fight broke out at the MGM Grand casino in Las Vegas involving members of Shakur’s entourage and Davis’s nephew. Later that night, gunmen opened fire on a car carrying Shakur. The rapper died from his injuries six days later.
Prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the attack in retaliation for the beating of his nephew.

Davis is the only person ever charged in connection with Shakur’s murder. He maintains his innocence and plans to appeal his conviction.
