The National Basketball Association (NBA) is reportedly in discussions with its partner sportsbooks about banning certain types of bets, according to ESPN.

The focus is on player prop bets, which are wagers on individual player performances, such as points scored, fouls, three-pointers made, etc.

This conversation was triggered by a recent scandal involving former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter. Porter received a lifetime ban for betting on basketball and providing bookmakers with insider information about his health status.

The NBA and US sportsbooks are aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future. There’s a possibility that a mutual agreement on this matter will be reached.

The NBA has commercial contracts with sportsbooks like BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings, and it influences the types of bets that can be offered on league games.

Additionally, the NBA and its partner sportsbooks are considering a ban on bets on player metrics for players with two-way contracts between the NBA and the G-League (the NBA’s official minor league). This means the ban on player props could apply not only to NBA games but also to G-League games.
